KARACHI, Jan 30: Pakistan’s hockey coach Michel van den Heuvel wants his team to play more and more international matches before the London Olympics.
“Pakistan need more international exposure for a better show at the Olympics,” he told reporters at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport on his arrival from Amsterdam on Monday.
He expressed hope that Pakistan would perform better in London than what they did at the eight-nation Champions Trophy in Auckland, New Zealand, where they finished seventh.
Heuvel dispelled the impression that there was little time left to prepare the team for the Olympics.
“We have enough time to prepare for the Olympics,” he said.
The mega event is scheduled to be held from July 27 to Aug 12.
He said he came to Pakistan to watch performance of senior and junior players at the ongoing national championship.
“There is no debate about seniors or juniors. We will select only the fit players,” he added.
Heuvel during his stay in Karachi will also conduct a coaches’ clinic from Feb 6 to 11.—APP
