ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: Dawn on Saturday won the ‘Best Cancer Story Awareness Award 2012’ competing with 13 other English and Urdu daily newspapers organised by the Shifa International Hospital.

Its staffers Imran Ali Teepu and Ayesha Shahid won Rs70,000 in cash prize at ceremony held here at Shifa International Hospital, which was organised in connection with World Cancer Awareness Day.

The World Cancer Day is marked on February 4 every year to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

The second prize was won by staffer of Urdu daily Pakistan, Ziaur Rehman, getting Rs50,000 cash prize while the third went to Dateline Islamabad’s Hamid Hussain who was given Rs30,000. Express Tribune’s Sehrish Wasif won consolation prize along with Rs100,00.

Member of the Planning Commission Dr Samar Mubarakmand and Shifa’s President Dr Manzoor H. Qazi distributed the cash prizes among the winners.
