Sahiwal; Children in the rural districts of Punjab have devised their own way of celebrating Eid Miladun Nabi.
They make different colourful textured scenes and design public presentation for display. Most of their artwork is displayed in front of their houses and on their streets. These children collectively contribute money in purchasing material and sometimes collect money from their parents and in kind from others.
The material used in making these installations is wooden powder, toys, cotton, thread, nails, stones, cloth and rug pieces, lights and sand.
It is also the tradition in Punjab that on the evening of 12th Rabiul Awal parents take their little children on to the streets and watch the artwork of other children. This goes on from evening to late night.
These pictures were taken at Furniture Bazar, Mohalla Christian Colony, Jinnah Chowk, Mohalla Eid Gah, Fateh Sher Colony, Farid Town and Railway Bazar. — Photos and text by Shafiq Butt
