LARKANA, Feb 17: A professor was shot dead by two motorcyclists here on Friday.

Professor Ali Dino Shar of the Government Degree College, Larkana, was present in the office of a private school at Mirokhan Chowk. Two armed men came there on a motorcycle, barged into the office and opened fire at him, leading to his death on the spot.

Ali Bakhsh Shar, the brother of deceased, has lodged an FIR with the Waleed police station against Hazaro Shar, Illahi Bakhsh, Mohammed Khan and Bandeh Ali.

The police raided Hazaro Wah village to arrest the nominated accused but they had vacated their houses along with their families.

It is said that the killing was related to a dispute involving karo-kari allegations. About three years ago a woman was killed after being accused of having illicit relations with deceased’s cousin Asghar Shar. It is believed that the woman’s relatives were behind the professor’s murder.

The Larkana chapter of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, at a meeting, has condemning the killing and called for the arrest of the killers.

SPLA leaders Professor Syed Ghulam Asghar Shaikh and Professor Muhram Kalhoro said that with the murder of Professor Shar, the college had been deprived of a learned teacher, adding that he was also a well known poet.
