SWABI, Feb 17: A power pylon was partially damaged after two bombs fitted to it exploded in Nazar Banda area of Yar Hussain region early on Friday.

Police said the act of sabotage was meant to suspend electric supply to Peshawar but failed to achieve the aim.

They said blasts partially damaged the pylon, which was repaired by the Peshawar Electric Supply Company.

Police said they had registered an FIR against unidentified people before beginning investigation into the terrorist activity.

Earlier, too, power pylons in the area were targeted by terrorists.

On February 10, two hand grenades were hurled at police as they were on their way to the police lines from duty at the public meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan. The attack left two dead and 20 injured.

Meanwhile, police made tight security arrangements for Upper Dir mosques for Friday prayers after suicide bombing of a Parachinar, Kurram Agency.

Police were deployed at entrance of mosques to bodysearch worshipers, while vehicles were checked at pickets on different parts of the area.

Security of key government offices was also beefed up with irrelevant people being denied entry to the premises. Security forces conducted search operation in the thickly-populated Rehankot and Bijlighar areas of Dir town.

The administration banned the carrying of arms, including licenced ones, in Dir town for an indefinite period.

The ban will also apply to plainclothesmen, said a police official.

Police warned people against carrying arms through announcements from mosques.
