KARACHI, Feb 24: A suspected midwife was on Friday remanded in police custody for one day in the five foetuses case.

The suspect, Nuzhat Aslam, said to be posing as a lady doctor, was arrested on Thursday at her clinic in Chakra Goth in connection with the case of five foetuses found in a garbage dump in Manzoor Colony on Feb 14.

The police produced the suspect before Judicial Magistrate (south) Mumtaz Ali Solangi and sought her remand for further interrogation.

The court handed over the suspect to the police on one-day physical remand and directed the investigation officer to produce her before him on Saturday along with a progress report.

A case (FIR 25/12) was registered under Sections 329 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body), 338-B (isqat-i-janin or cause a pregnant woman to miscarry), 201(causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offence) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Mehmoodabad police station.

Remand extended in boy's kidnap, murder case

An anti-terrorism court extended on Friday the police remand of three suspects in a case pertaining to the kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old boy till Feb 28.

The three suspects — Syed Ali Raza son of Syed Mohammad Raza, Ali Raza son of Attaullah and Mohammad Zohaib Tariq — have been booked and arrested for allegedly killing Zaheem Nawaz, the son of an assassinated DSP, after kidnapping him for ransom on Feb 8 within the remit of the Sharea Faisal police station.

On Feb 13, the suspects were handed over to the police on physical remand and following the expiry of their remand the police produced them before Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of the ATC-I.

A case (FIR 120/2012) was registered under Sections 365-A (kidnapping for ransom), 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

Three Indian fishermen sent to jail

A judicial magistrate remanded on Friday three Indian fishermen in judicial custody for unlawfully fishing in Pakistani waters.

The Maritime Security Agency had detained the fishermen along with their three fishing boats and handed them over to the police.

The fishermen were brought before the judicial magistrate (west), who sent them to prison on judicial remand with a direction to the police to file a report (charge-sheet) under Section 173 of the criminal procedure code.

A case was registered against the fishermen under Sections 3/4 of the Foreigners' Act and 3/9 of the Fisheries Act at the Docks police station.
