ISLAMABAD: Six power turbines of Tarbela dam were closed due to decrease in water level in the dam, creating serious situation for electricity supply.

According to the management, fourteen turbines generate electricity out of which six have been closed, private news channel reported.

The remaining eight units generate 650 MW electricity and if the situation persisted, it is feared that the remaining turbines could also break down.

The management told that the water level is at 1,378 feet in the dam.

It was expected that further decrease in water level would affect the power generation resulting in worsening of the power crisis.
