SUKKUR, March 12: The district historical society of Jacobabad launched a book titled “From Upper Scinde Frontier To Jacobabad” outlining history of the city at a ceremony at the Jacob’s residence on Sunday night.

The society headed by Deputy Commissioner Sajid Jamal Abro organised the book’s inauguration ceremony, which was followed by a 30-minute documentary by PPP MNA and former federal minister, Mir Aijaz Hussain Khan Jakhrani.

Mr Jakhrani said that many cities named after British functionaries were renamed after independence but people of Jacobabad did not allow changing the city’s name out of love and respect for Mr John Jacob who had rendered great services for people and had a special place in people’s hearts.

He said that documentation of the old era and preservation of monuments was need of the hour and the deputy commissioner had done a great service by accepting the challenge and bringing out a valuable book on the history of Jacobabad.

Deputy Commissioner Saj-id Jamal Abro said that he would try his best to get the book translated into Sindhi so that general public could also learn about the achievements of General John Jacob.

He demanded that the residence of John Jacob should be converted into a museum to preserve Jacob’s historical clock and other valuable gazetteers from 1858 and onward. All participants, congratulated the official on his valuable work.
