Karachi, March 12: Ailing intellectual, writer, researcher Sobho Gyanchandani was shifted from Larkana to the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) on Monday by an air ambulance provided free of cost by the Edhi Welfare Trust, an official statement issued in Hyderabad said.

A spokesman for the provincial culture department, the Sindh Chief Minister issued directives for a complete medical check- up and treatment of Mr Gyanchandani.

The eminent scholar was facilitated on the journey from his home to Mohenjodaro Airport, Larkana by the commissioner and deputy commissioner.

Provincial Secretary for Culture Abdul Aziz Uqaili along with other officers of his department received him at Karachi Airport, said the spokesman, adding that soon after his arrival, Mr Gyanchandani was rushed to the AKUH where, after a medical check-up by specialists, his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Mr Uqaili said that Mr Chandani’s treatment at the AKUH would be carried out on the Sindh government’s expense under the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Describing it as Mr Gyanchandani’s due right and privilege, he said that the Sindh Government had helped him in the past and would continue to do so during his lifetime, because the writer/scholar had rendered matchless services for Sindh, its people, history and culture.
