ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the contempt of court case against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani till April 12, DawnNews reported.

A seven-member bench headed by Justice Nasir Mulk was hearing the case.

PM’s counsel Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan expressed his grievances while appearing before the court today.

“Will you be able to give evidences today?” the court asked the counsel.

Ahsan answered in negative and said that he was not feeling well.

The court then asked Ahsan if he could complete his evidences in five days.

In reply, Ahsan said that he could not promise the court.

While talking to the media representatives outside the SC, Ahsan said that the judges who issued a show cause notice to Gilani were not eligible to hear the case.

He said if a notice is taken by the Chief Justice, then the trial is conducted by another bench.

Ahsan said that the contempt of court is the last option and the SC has given six options regarding the case.

“Gilani in his reply asked the court to imply the sixth option according to which the matter will be decided in the Parliament,” the counsel said.

“If convicted guilty, then the PM will be sent to the Adiala jail,” Ahsan said.

On March 26, Aitzaz Ahsan’s assistant, Gohar told the court that Ahsan was not able to appear before the court as he was ill, hence the hearing was adjourned till March 27.
