MARDAN, March 29: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Aman Jirga here on Thursday set a 48-hour deadline for police to arrest the killers of a poor woman and her daughter, who were killed in Seenai area of Lund Khwar.

The jirga president, Syed Kamal Shah, general secretary Arshad Manan and local leaders of PML-N and PTI including Zakaullah, Barrister Ahmad Ali, Arshad Khan, Abid and Shergar Press Club president Bakhtullah Jan Khaslat held several meetings with notables of the area to evolve a strategy to help the affected family.

The jirga members alleged that Fawad and Naveed entered the house of Sajawal Baba on September 3, 2011 and opened indiscriminate firing on the inmates, killing his wife Dilfaroza on the spot and injuring his daughter Asiya.

They also took away Naseem Akhtar, another daughter of Sajawal Baba, with them, they said. They added that Sajawal Baba had refused to tie the knot of her daughter Naseem Akhtar with Fawad that infuriated him.

After kidnapping the 17-year-old Naseem Akhtar, a student of 10the class, the accused contacted Sajawal Baba several times and pressurised him for making reconciliation with them but he refused to do so.

The officials of Lund Khwar police station found the body of the kidnapped girl on March 26, 2012 in the nearby fields. The body had marks of severe torture.

The jirga members accompanied by elders of the area staged a protest demonstration on Thursday and demanded arrest of the killers.

The jirga president appealed to chief justice of Peshawar High Court, Aurat Foundation and National Commission on the Status of Women to take action against the accused and provide legal and financial support to the affected family.

Local political leaders and elders of the area also addressed the protesters and set a 48-hour deadline for police to take practical steps and arrested the accused.

They said that the alleged killers were still threatening Sajawal Baba and his family.

They asked the authorities to provide security to the affected family.

They threatened to stage sit-ins outside Governor’s House and Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar and Parliament House in Islamabad if authorities failed to take practical steps within the stipulated time.

Sajawal Baba also spoke on the occasion and threatened to commit self-immolation in front of Supreme Court if justice was not provided to him.
