KARACHI: Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, has said that the media should avoid spreading sensation by 'misreporting of facts regarding the law and order situation in Karachi'.

Talking to media persons in Karachi on Monday, he said there was no target killing incident yesterday, even though he saw in the newspapers that six people were killed in targeted killings yesterday.

Rehman Malik said that these deaths were natural or due to personal enmities and accidents.

He requested the media to refrain from 'misreporting' and added that a system has been set up where the reporters can call up the concerned authorities to find out the cause of any incident which has occurred in the city.

Rehman Malik said Home Minister Sindh, Manzoor Wassan, and police officials are always available to confirm the cause of any incident if they are not available, then there is Crisis Management Cell which is open 24 hours and which has all the information about the crimes taking place across Pakistan.

He said airing of an incorrect report, like that of a target killing, can cause further tensions among people.

He clarified that no operation is being carried out, only targeted actions against criminals are being conducted to maintain law and order in Karachi.

The interior minister appreciated the directives of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain about removal of his party flags in the metropolis.
