THE United States placed Lashkar-i-Taiba chief Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, along with his brother-in-law Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, on the most-wanted terrorist list on Monday, according to the Hindustan Times.
The $10 million reward brought Hafiz Saeed at par with Taliban founder Mullah Omar, who the US holds responsible for 9/11. The move was disclosed to Indian foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai by US undersecretary of political affairs Wendy Sherman, who is in New Delhi on an official visit, the newspaper said.
Saeed was designated global terrorist in Dec 2008 and Makki in Nov 2010.
The Lashkar chief has been on India’s most-wanted list since the attacks in Mumbai on Nov 26, 2008, that killed 173 people, including six Americans. —Dawn monitor
