KARACHI, April 5: Pakistan’s Mohammad Majid Ali rounded off his league engagements on a winning note by emerging group champion in the 13th Asian under-21 snooker championship in the Indian city of Goa on Thursday.

He recovered from 1-2 down to turn the tables on Iran’s Slyavosh Mozayani 4-2 to maintain a clean slate in group C. He was home 61-34, 41-71, 5-67, 110-31, 92-39, 69-58.

The match was of academic interest as he had already qualified for the knockout pre quarter-finals.

Thailand’s Akani Songsermsawad finished runner-up in the group and also qualified for the last 16 round.

Majid’s compatriot Hunain Aamir has also earned a berth in the last 16 registering two wins in group A.

He meets Iran’s reigning world champion Hossein Vafaei Ayouri in the last fixture on Friday to decide top two positions.
