KOHAT, April 10: The police elite force arrested seven proclaimed offenders and 37 other alleged criminals and recovered two hand grenades and weapons during an operation in different parts of Kohat district on Tuesday.
District police officer Mubarek Zeb had ordered the operation against criminals along the tribal belt and in some villages. The police force combed the areas bordering the tribal belt, Jarma, Bilitang, Cantt, Dhoda, Sayyab, Junglekhel and Gumbat and arrested 44 accused, including seven proclaimed offenders required in murder and kidnapping for ransom cases.
The police also recovered two hand grenades, five sub-machineguns, three repeaters, eight shot guns, seven rifles, 16 pistols, hashish and cartridges from the possession of the accused.
FOUND DEAD: A shepherd was found dead in Nasratkhel area on Hangu road here on Tuesday.
One Murad told police that his father, Shahbaz Gul, had gone to a nearby mountain to graze the cattle where unknown people shot him dead. The Cantt police brought the body to KDA hospital. The area police have registered a murder case against unidentified people. In another incident, one Ghaffar Khan was gunned down in Billitang area. Khan’s son Adnan reported the matter to Bilitang police, which had started search for the arrest of five brothers nominated in the case.
Meanwhile, a man died of suffocation in a well while saving life of his uncle in Jarma village here on Tuesday.
The young rescuer, Jabbar Khan, jumped into the well to pull out his uncle, Najmuddin, but he also fainted due to poisonous gas. Later, local people pulled the two out of the well, but due to delay Mr Jabbar died in the well. His body was handed over to the family after autopsy in KDA hospital.
