LAHORE, April 20: Around 150 pugilists of 14 different teams from across the country will feature in the 34th National Boxing Championships, which will be staged here at the Punjab College of Commerce Hall from April 23 to 27.

Mohammad Akram, secretary of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), announced this at a news conference here on Friday.

The prominent teams, which would field their boxers in the championships, include Wapda, Army, Railways, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan. Fata would be featuring in the national event for the first time.

Akram noted it was a record number of entries of boxers for the national competition which would be inaugurated by president of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Gen. Arif Hasan.

Competitions would he held in 10 different weight categories, the PBF official added.

Meanwhile, the secretary said the PBF had formed an inquiry committee to find the reasons of Pakistan boxers’ failure in the London Olympics qualifiers.
