LAHORE: Pakistan Army pugilists dominated the 34th National Boxing Championship as six of their boxers qualified for finals in different weight categories at the Punjab College’s hall here on Thursday.

Mohammad Nauman (49kg), Nawaz Dad (60kg), Faisal Khan (64kg), Ahmed Ali (81kg), Riaz Ali (91kg) and Waqar Ali (91-plus) of the Army reached finals.

Boxers from Pakistan Air Force (PAF) are at second place after occupying five places in finals. They are Abdul Waheed (52kg), Niamatullah (56kg), Adnan (64kg), Arshad Khan (69kg) and Mirza Azam (75kg).

Wapda’s four men in finals of various categories are Mohammad Waseem (52kg), Kadir Khan (60kg), Aamir Khan (69kg) and Mir Waiz (91-plus).

Moreover, Navy’s three pugilists will appear in the finals of various categories.

Also, Mohib Barha from Police in 49kg category and Moiaz Khan from Higher Education Commission in 91kg category entered the finals.

Meanwhile, there was only one bout in which referee stopped the contest during semi-finals held on Thursday.

In other bouts an opponent was knocked out while one pugilist got walkover while the remaining bouts continued till last second.

In one of the tough fights, Mohib Barha of Police came out winner against Sheroz of Navy in the 49kg category. Similarly, Mohamamd Nauman of the Army downed Wapda’s Naqibullah in the same category.

The finals in various categories will be held on Friday.

60kg: Kadir Khan (Wapda) bt Mohammad Ali (Police) 13-4pts; Nawaz Dad (Army) bt Amar (Navy) 29-15pts.

64kg: Faisal Khan (Army) bt Sadullah (Balochistan) 18-10pts; Adnan (PAF) bt Mohamamd Ali (Navy) 14-11pts.

69kg: Arshad Hussain (PAF) bt Mohammad Afzal (Police) 26-4pts; Aamir Khan (Wapda) bt Tanveer (Navy) 25-13pts.

75kg: Mirza Azam (PAF) bt Zulqarnain (HEC) 12-4pts; Dur Mohammad (Navy) bt Atif Mahmood (Army) 23-13pts.

81kg: Nadir Khan (Navy) bt Asmatullah (Balochistan) 22-5pts; Ahmed Ali (Army) bt Mahmood (PAF) knock out.

91kg: Moiz Khan (HEC) bt Amir Hamza (Rangers) 16-11pts, Riaz Ali (Army) bt Qamar Amin (PAF) 23-16pts.

91 plus kg: Mir Waiz (Wapda) bt Mohammad Qasim (HEC) RSC first round; Waqar Ali (Army) bt Niamatullah (Navy) walkover.

Quarter-finals:

69kg: Mohammad Afzal (Police) bt Shafique (Islamabad) knock-out first round; Arshad (PAF) bt Mohammad Zubair (Balochistan) 24-5pts; Tanveer (Navy) bt Fahim Rangers 20-5pts; Aamir Khan (Wapda) bt Zulqarnain (Army) 16-5pts.

75kg: Zulqarnain (HEC) bt Javed Akhtar (Railways) 12-11pts; Mirza Azam (PAF) bt Nisar Ahmed (Wapda) 40-15pts; Dur Mohammad Navy bt Tayab Usmani (Islamabad) RSC second round; Atif Mahmood (Amry) bt Shahid Khan (Punjab) 26-4pts.
