The Uighur or Uyghur is a Turkic ethnic group living in Eastern and Central Asia. Today, they are mainly found in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in China.

Aside from China, significant diasporic communities of Uighurs exist in Central Asia countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrhystan and Uzbekistan.  Smaller communities of Uighur are also living in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey.

A large percentage of the Uighur community is made up of Sunni Muslims and they are considered to be well -integrated with the global Muslim community. – Photo by Reuters.
