KOHAT, May 20: A big jirga of elders and local people announced to observe complete shutdown and wheel jam strike on Monday (today) against non-restoration of electricity supply in Hangu on the fourth consecutive day.

The jirga held in Hangu on Sunday also announced that all educational institutions in the district would remain closed till restoration of power supply.

The elders also met with executive engineer of Peshawar Electric Supply Company and district coordination officer at his office to discuss the slow work on restoration of electricity after transformer allocated to Hangu was extensively damaged by fire in the main grid station of Kohat.

After lengthy deliberations, they urged the administration to supply electricity to Hangu district for at least two to three hours daily until a new transformer was installed for Hangu at the main grid.

The administration officials told them that it was not possible to connect the district to the 66 KV Thall power lines because jumpers from the 132 KV line had been removed for some development work. They said that the Thall tehsil of Hangu was primarily a cantonment and had a separate grid.

The elders also warned that they would attack Wapda installations if power supply was not restored to Hangu within 24 hours and all responsibility would rest with the district administration and Pesco authorities.

PTI CONVENTION: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf leaders have said that if Nato supply was restored it will prove disastrous for economy and supremacy of parliament in the country.

They were speaking at the party convention in Hangu, which was attended by central secretary information Asif Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa senior vice-president Asad Qaiser, provincial youth wing president Murad Saeed, advisor to PTI chief Shaukat Yousufzai, party’s district president Noor Nawaz and hundreds of workers on Sunday.

The speakers said that the Awami National Party was keeping a criminal silence over killing of innocent civilians in drone strikes in Federally Administered Tribal Areas. They said that the ANP had been restricted to one family and there was no democracy in it. They alleged that the party along with other ruling coalition partners was involved in massive corruption. They also demanded resignation of JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman for supporting, what they called, corrupt rulers to hide his own corruption.

They alleged that the government was taking dictations from the US on budget-making and production and billing of electricity.
