PESHAWAR, Dec 11: The Immamia Students Organisation (ISO) has demanded registration of a contempt of court case against the officials of the home department, “who have been involved in depriving the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) students from seeking admission to medical colleges, despite the Supreme Court’s verdict.”

Talking to students belonging to Fata, the ISO’s divisional president, Sajid Hussain, said here on Wednesday the Supreme Court had handed down the verdict regarding the admission quota reserved for the Fata students, which was being clearly violated by the officials of the home department.

All the tribal units, he said, had been allotted 12 seats each in medical colleges, of which, according to the apex court’s verdict, one seat had been reserved for the internal students who had passed their matriculation examination from any school located inside Fata. The rest 11 seats, he added, were allocated to the students studying outside Fata but possessed Fata domicile.

Despite the SC’s verdict, he went on to say, the officials of the home department were out to appease the influential and rich people and deprive the poor Fata students from the one seat reserved for the internal candidates.

The ISO leader also expressed concern over the admission of students of Frontier Regions (FRs) from the quota exclusively reserved for the students of Kurram Agency.

This, he said, also amounted to contempt of court on the part of the officials concerned and proceedings for contempt of court be initiated against the responsible officials.

Sajid was of the view that the students of different educational institutes in Fata could not afford to study in Peshawar schools. In the past, all the 12 seats reserved for Fata were allocated to the students who were studying outside Fata and secured more marks than their colleagues in Fata.
