CHARSADDA, May 23: A government school was reopened in Dawlatpura area on Wednesday after police evicted a man occupying its two-storey building since 1996.

The man was later sent to Haripur jail under 3 MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) on the orders of the district coordination officer, Charsadda.

Locals said the man, who had been living on the premises with family, didn’t allow students to get in.

Executive district officer (education), Charsadda, Attaullah Miankhel, who also showed up at the school’s reopening, said over 300 students were enrolled with the school when its building was occupied in 1996.

Also in the day, the Charsadda district administration on Wednesday revised the prices of consumer goods and issued a rate list.

The price revision took place during a meeting chaired by DCO Ajmal Khan in his office.

The meeting was attended by ACO Naeem Khan, TMO Main Aneesur Rehman, assistant food controller Abdul Hafeez, Muttahida Shopkeeper Association president Hakeemullah, grocery stores president Haji Gul, Nanbai Association president Fazal Rabbi and others.Meanwhile, people of Wapda Colony, Charsadda, on Wednesday complained of prolonged suspension of water supply and said they’re stressed out due to unavailability of water.

People said water supply to their colony had been suspended for a fortnight and as a result, they had to fetch water from faraway places for drinking and other household purposes.

They threatened to agitate along with members of their families on Friday over the problem.

Also in the day, the provincial TB Control Programme organised a workshop on control of tuberculosis in Charsadda.

TBCP regional coordinator Dr Fahad apprised participants of the symptoms, causes, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. He said every year, 320,000 people suffered from tuberculosis in Pakistan.

Dr Fahad said soon after appearance of TB symptoms, suspects or patients should be shifted to TB centres for diagnosis and treatment.
