MARDAN, May 25: City police on Friday arrested 12 activists of Pakhtun Students Federation (PkSF), including its district president and general secretary, when they tried to vandalise an under-construction wall between the buildings of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) and adjacent post graduate college.

A contingent of police led by DSP Khalid Naseem and SHO Shah Mumtaz Khan baton-charged and arrested the student activists when they were protesting against construction of the wall in place of a gate between the AWKUM and post graduate college buildings.

Officials of the city police station said that an FIR had been registered against the PkSF activists for vandalism.

Meanwhile, PkSF district president has announced his resignation along with the district cabinet from offices and basic membership of Awami National Party to protest against their arrest.

Talking to media persons at the police station, they said that they were humiliated by police when they were carrying out a peaceful protest against the government’s plan to construct a wall between the buildings of AWKU and post graduate college.
