QUETTA, May, 27: Three people were killed and eight others, among them a policeman, were injured when a bomb exploded in the Sariab road area of the city on Sunday.

Sources said the explosive device placed on a donkey cart was detonated through remote control when a van of the New Sariab police station was passing through the area.

Capital City Police Officer Capitan (retd) Mir Zubair said the bomb exploded seconds after the police van passed by the donkey cart which was parked near another donkey cart.

SHO Saleem Shahwani was not in the van at the time of the explosion.

The CCPO said at least 10kg of explosives were used in the crime. The blast claimed the lives of the owners of the two donkey carts and a rickshaw driver. The donkeys were also killed.

Banaras Khan, an eyewitness, told Dawn that the bodies of the cart owners were found some 300 metres from the crime scene.

Police and FC personnel took the bodies and the injured to the civil hospital where the condition of the two injured was stated to be serious.

Two of those killed were identified as Mohammad Younus and Mohammad Arif, both Afghan nationals.

The injured are Badar Khan, Abdul Samad, Mozammil Ahmad, Abdul Rashid, Rafiullah, Allah Bakhsh, Waqar Ahmad and Mohammad Nazar.
