QUETTA, May 28: Abdul Qadir Hajizai, the headmaster of a middle school and a part time journalist, was gunned down in Basima area of Washik district on Monday, Levies Force sources said.

Mr Hajizai was going home when armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He was injured and taken to hospital where he died.

Mr Hajizai also worked for a private Balochi language TV channel.

Meanwhile, armed men opened fire on the house of the president of the Turbat Press Club, Irshad Akhtar.

Mr Akhtar said he and his family remained unhurt in the attack.

The Balochistan Union of Journalists strongly condemned the murder of Mr Hajizai and firing on the house of Mr Akhtar.

In a statement, the BUJ appealed to the chief justices of the Supreme Court and Balochistan High Court to take notice of the killing of journalists in the province.
