LAHORE, May 30: Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Syed Munawwar Hasan has underlined the need for a grand alliance to get rid of the ‘corrupt’ Zardari-Gilani government and to ensure fair, free and impartial elections under an independent election commission.

Talking to reporters after the launching of a book by JI deputy secretary-general Dr Farid Piracha here on Wednesday, he said Zardari-Gilani and corruption were inseparable, and that a joint push by all the (opposition) parties was needed to oust the duo.

He welcomed the petitions filed by the PML-N and the PTI against the ruling of the National Assembly speaker with regard to the Supreme Court judgment against convicted Prime Minister Gilani.

He also condemned a raise in Haj fare and counseled former federal minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi not to take the entire burden of the scandal on himself and divulge the names of all those who had minted money through him.

He said the provincial government in Balochistan was a total failure and the situation won’t change there with the deployment of the Frontier Constabulary.

Meanwhile, a meeting of JI leaders also decided to challenge the NA speaker’s ruling.

Secretary-general Liaquat Baloch said a team of leading lawyers would move the petition.
