SWABI, May 31: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf leaders and workers on Thursday marched through the city before blocking roads at Karnal Sher Khan Chowk and protesting excessive loadshedding.
Protesters stayed put for two hours shouting slogans against Peshawar Electric Supply Company and the federal and provincial governments.
They blamed energy crisis on the previous and current governments, saying instead of planning construction of new dams, they focused on accumulating wealth from the national exchequer under different pretexts.
Noted among speakers were PTI leaders Asad Qaisar, Sohail Khan, Shah Wali and Yousaf Ali.
Mr Qaisar said as the summer had begun to get harsher, the loadshedding duration, too, had begun to increase.
He said ironically, electric supply to residences of rulers remained uninterrupted.
“There is no loadshedding for the ruling elite. And that is the reason that they don’t heed the people’s repeated calls for smooth electric supply,” he said.
Without naming the Awami National Party leaders, Mr Sohail asked where those, who pronounced in the past to bring ‘electricity switch’ from Wapda House, Lahore, to the province.
He said the current rulers should share the misery of the people hit hard by energy crisis and high inflation.
