SWABI, June 10: Excessive power loadshedding has crippled the education process in schools and both teachers and students are fed up with the hot weather conditions.

During an interaction, teachers of both government and private schools told this correspondent that when students gather in classrooms in these summer days it created more heat and suffocation and it became difficult for them to stay in classrooms for long. They said that students had not been completing their assignments and homework and often referred to over 20 hours daily loadshedding as an excuse.

The teachers said that it was difficult for the students to follow their instructors in suffocating classrooms.

“A tension-free environment is a prerequisite for imparting education and learning. In case of prolonged outages it would be difficult for us and the students to cover our objectives,” said headmaster of government high school, Maneri. He said that it was not possible for sweating students to learn even if they had very good teachers.

In some schools classes are held under the shadow of trees. However, majority of educational institutions don’t have any trees and students remain in classrooms for the whole time.

“This summer is totally different because loadshedding has increased manifold, making our life miserable,” said Asif Ali, a student of class 8th. He said that students could not properly study in their schools and homes due to prolonged power outages.

Majority of the private schools have planned the first-term exams from next week. “Exams in our school would start on Monday and it would continue till June 20,” said Mohammad Rashid, who teaches in a private school.

The summer holidays in both government middle and high schools would start from June 15, while primary schools have been closed for three months on May 31. The students and teachers have demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to either ensure smooth power supply to schools or immediately announce summer holidays.
