KARACHI, June 12: Aqeel Khan and Yasir Khan, the top two seeds, set a date by winning their men’s singles semi-finals in contrasting styles in the fourth Maroof Trophy ranking tennis tournament at the DA Central Club on Tuesday.

While Aqeel took little time to dispose of Adil Kohari 6-4, 6-2 his sibling Yasir had to struggle to beat Vinod Das in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. The final between the two Khans will be played on Wednesday at 4.30pm.

Hania Naveed will be up against Neha Khan in the ladies singles final after the two came of with flying colours in semi-finals on the penultimate day.

The former whipped Sara Ahmed 6-2, 7-6 while the latter carved out 6-3, 6-3 victory over her sister Wania.

Men’s singles:

Quarter-final: Adil Kohari bt Malik Hamza 6-1, 6-1. Semi-finals: Aqeel Khan bt Adil Kohari 6-4, 6-2; Yasir Khan bt Vinod Das 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Ladies singles:

Semi-finals: Hania Naveed bt Sara Ahmed 6-2, 7-6; Neha Khan bt Wania Khan 6-3, 6-3. Juniors’ under-17 singles: Semi-finals: Hassan Siddique bt Saud Shoaib 6-7, 6-1, 6-3; Dawar Rehan bt Malik Hamza 6-3, 6-0.

Under-15 singles:

Quarter-finals: M. Raza Sawani bt M. Ameer Hamza 8-0; Hasan Farooq bt Nazif Ahmed 8-3. Semi-finals: M. Raza Sawani bt Farzan Azhar 8-5.

Under-13 singles:

Semi-finals: Jalaluddin Baber bt Hania Naved 8-4; Hasan Farooq bt M. Raza Sawani 8-4.

Under-11 singles:

Semi-final: Shahzil Malik bt Parbad 8-2.

Under-9 singles:

Final: Asheesh bt Safeer 8-3.

Men’s doubles:

First round: Usman Arshad and Arshad Abrar bt Naveed and Hari Das 6-4, 4-6, 6-3; Rafay Hafiz and Ahsan Zuberi bt Nawab Muzaffar and Jalaluddin 6-2, 6-2.

45 doubles:

Semi-finals: Imran Ahmed and Sabih Wali bt Zafar Hasan and Waseem Haider 6-0, 6-2; Moin Waheed and Waseem Haider bt Altaf Hussain and Karim Gul Agha (walkover). Wednesday’s fixtures: Matches start at 9am.
