THIS is apropos of news report ‘Bullied student commits suicide in Charsadda’ (June 8). It is indeed very sad that a young student committed suicide owing to bullying. Bullying is a sort of violent behaviour which is performed by the use of force to affect others, mostly when the behaviour is habitual and involves an imbalance of supremacy.

It includes verbal annoyance, physical attack or intimidations which are directed repeatedly at the victim children and teenage boys and girls. The reasons behind bullying can be race, religion, gender, sexuality or ability, inferior complex or sometimes indistinct causes.

It can be found everywhere in the world that more or less everyone has gone through this depressed confrontation period in his lifetime.

This stressful condition can be dangerous as 14-year-old Class VIII student was a victim of bullying and got rid of it by taking his own life.

Sometimes it effects permanently and remains with life which can ruin the person’s whole life.

If timely action is not taken, parents are left with a regret saying: “We wish we had known and put a stop to it”.

Parents and teachers both can play a vital role in ending bullying and making a bully-free environment.

Children need education and training regarding how to face bullies. They should be able to muster the courage to confront the bullies.

There are many things which can stop people from bullying, such as informing parents or teachers as soon as possible, avoiding making eye contact with the person who is bullying you, staying with a group of people and not being afraid. This is a serious matter: parents, teachers and school management should hold meetings from time to time and stop such sort of embarrassing incidents.
