KOHAT, June 14: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company failed to keep consumers informed about timing of electricity restoration during a major power breakdown of 11 hours in Kohat city on Thursday.

The consumers continued contacting various officials for the whole day since morning to know about timing of restoration of power supply to the city.

However, they failed to get a satisfactory reply from any quarters.

It has been learnt that local Pesco staff, which is not allowed to suspend electricity without bringing it into the notice officials of the grid station, cut off power supply to the city from illegal circuit-breakers at around 7:10am.

Some officials, however, pointed to faults in the grid station for the long power suspension. Though the power was restored at 12pm, but within minutes it was cut off by Islamabad control centre about which the Pesco complaint cell staff did not know anything.

There was virtually nobody to satisfy the consumers by giving right information about why there has been a long power breakdown, who is responsible for it or when the supply would be restored.

The power was ultimately restored at 6:30pm.

When contacted, the superintendent – who is in-charge of electricity supply operation to the city – said that electricity had not been suspended by him after the noon. He rejected the impression that power was cut off in the morning without permission of the grid station.

Sources said that illegal circuit-breakers were being used as a tactic to hide theft and show at the end of every month that less electricity was consumed in a particular area.

The daylong power breakdown also caused water shortage in many parts of Kohat city and Lachi tehsil.

MEDICAL CAMP: The army medical corps held two-day free medical camps in parts of frontier region of Kohat for the first time during ongoing operation in last four years.

The camps were held in Sunnikhel area of Darra Adamkhel and Arakhel area of Jawaki in which both lady and male doctors provided treatment to patients.

Over 4,000 patients were checked and some were referred to combined military hospital, Kohat, for further treatment. They were also given free medicines.
