Lahu is “...the essence of life; it is what drives any living being. We usually speak (read sing) about all the emotions & feelings that one experiences at various stages of life. We are a rock n roll band; sensitive enough to be scarred by the consistent turmoil within our society, yet bold enough to blatantly express our views. Here within lies our band philosophy.”

"It feels great to be able to perform live in-front of audiences! To us, World Music Day is more than just about a gig. It is a reminder to all of us that progress is only possible by maintaining peace & harmony. Being in rhythm with all your surroundings, to be able to rock n roll, is to be free, to be liberated. It is a moment where everyone under one roof; the artist, the organizer and the audience, become one."

Lahu got together in November 2000; they were four university colleagues who debuted together in a gig where they payed tribute to Junoon. Since then, they say it has been a bumpy ride “facing a lot of challenges and personal fears.”

The band has been recording songs (about nine tracks between 2002 and 2007) and has also released its first video of ‘Daira’ – a track based “on the cyclic monotony of life.”

They play songs based on “socio-political scenarios, the search for ones own self, reflecting upon experiences & mere coincidences.”

The band’s name ‘Lahu’ was chosen amongst numerous suggestions due to its “deep & multi-lateral meanings.”

Most lyrics have been penned by Junaid Waheed (Vocals) or Haider Biabani (Guitars), and some are written by close friends or great poets like Habib Jalib. Also in their band line-up Wasim Kamal (Drums), and Noman (Bass).
