ISLAMABAD: Following the nomination of Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for the post of prime minister, Potohar region has attained the distinguished honour of being home to four of most influential personnel in Pakistan’s government and military.

Apart from PM-nominee Ashraf, Chairman Senate Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director General of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Zaheer-ul-Islam also hail from this north-western region of the country.

Some of the major districts of this region include, capital Islamabad, adjoining Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jehlum.

Top military men Kayani and Islam, as well as Ashraf hail from Rawalpindi. While Chairman Senate Bukhari belongs to the village of Malpur in Islamabad.

Ashraf was nominated for the position of prime minister by the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party following the disqualification of Yousuf Raza Gilani by the Supreme Court on June 19.
