KOHAT, Dec 14: The Kohat Bar Association through a unanimous resolution passed at a meeting held here on Friday, has rejected the demand of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) for the replacement of provincial governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah.

The bar general secretary, Rehman Zeb, told Dawn that the MMA demand was unjust as the governor had been running the provincial affairs in right manner.

The development projects undertaken in the tribal areas and the settled districts had no precedent, therefore, the governor be allowed to complete his constitutional term, Mr Zeb said, adding that it was also good for keeping a check on the new government keeping in view the past records of parliamentarians.

The MMA had renewed its demand of the immediate removal of NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah for using derogatory remarks against the Ulema for participating in the Afghan Jihad and earning a bad name for the country and Islam.

At a meeting, all the leaders of the MMA asked President Gen Pervez Musharraf to order the replacement of the provincial governor for the smooth functioning of the MMA government as both had clash of policies.

A leader of JI and member of its central Shura, Fida Saadi, told Dawn on Friday that the MMA had been demanding the removal of the governor for the last six months.
