we need to change our perception about addicts, addiction is not a menace,it is a genetic disease.Eradication can only be achieved through awareness of this disease.

I would like to both agree and disagree. Addictions is not a genetic disease - an individual can be born with an addiction due to their mother using substances during pregnancy, however this still does not make it a genetic disease. For the most part (and I say this as I work with people experiencing addictions - I do not use the term addicts as it seems to take the person out of the equation), addictions are coping mechanisms to deal with poverty and trauma. I completely agree with you that awareness and education is needed in this area. I wonder if anything useful is being done on this "International Drug Day"... what does this mean exactly???
