HYTHANE fuel in essence is a meld of 20 per cent hydrogen and 80 per cent natural gas. This fuel is being effectually used in different countries of the developed world where environmental protection and sustainable use of scarce resources is the main concern.

It is my earnest request, in general, to all those who are in the saddle of ministries of petroleum and natural resources and science and technology and, in particular, to the chairmen of HEC, Javed Leghari and Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, to delve into the feasibility and viability of this fuel in Pakistan, owing to the fact that it may assist in tailing of the yawning gap between supply and demand of CNG.

As such, it may enhance the life span of our scant marsh-gas reservoirs which are depleting at a galloping pace.

The incredible trait of hythane is that without any modification in thermodynamic devices like engines, turbines and boilers, which are particularly designed and manufactured for natural gas, it can be innocuously converted into hythane fuel.

I have constructed a prototype in my thesis of 2010, under the aegis of the mechanical staff at the Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology, Nawabshah (QUEST). During the tests conducted, I obtained astounding results. The power of engines jacked up and toxic flue gases, i.e. carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitrogen oxide (NO) were considerably diminished. It should be noted that these noxious gases are formidable enemies of our eco-system. Conservation of the eco-system is our indispensable and mandatory responsibility, owing to the fact that existence and survival of living beings is squarely contingent on its smooth working.

I am hoping that my voice would reach the afore-mentioned dignitaries.
