GILGIT, July 3: The Frontier Constabulary foiled an attempt of two prisoners to escape at a sub jail in Gilgit on Monday night.
The said prisoners were recently awarded death sentence for killing PPP leader Mir Nawaz Khan.
Police said the two were held after they tried to escape through the hole, which they had secretly dug in their barrack’s wall over the weeks.
Police registered another case against them and began investigation into how provided them with instruments to dig the hole. Recently, a prisoner fled from the same jail.
After the incident, the jail administration tightened the security on and around the premises besides ordering into an inquiry into it.
Also in the day, police arrested the ring leader of a robbers’ gang after an encounter in Basin area.
Police said Israr, which was wanted in many cases of theft, burglary and other crimes, fired gunshots at police after they raided his hideout.
They said the raiding team, however, remained unhurt.
Police said the outlaw was being quizzed for his criminal activities.
