SANGHAR, July 16: Most of the roads damaged by last year’s torrential rains have not been repaired yet and motorists and commuters are facing serious problems.

Repair of some sections of the roads was taken up but the pace of work is slow and can not be completed before the onset of monsoon.

The repair of the Sanghar-Hyderabad road at Shah Baig Mari which remained under water for two months has not been completed.

The Khadro-Shahpur Chakar road has two to three feet deep ditches. As a result, vehicles move slowly and 5-minute drive from Khadro to Shahpur Chakar takes almost half an hour.

Patients going to Nawabshah are suffering while trucks transporting goods to the town have stopped plying on the road.

The roads from Chak No.8 to Sanghar, Bochina Mori to Chotiyarioon, Kandiari to Berani, Sanghar to Kandiari, Jhol to Shahdadpur and Sinjhoro to Shahdadpur were seriously damaged last year and remained under water for several days.

Even in the town, roads are still in a bad shape. The M.A. Jinnah Road and Court road have been recently repaired with MPA’s funds but a 20-minute rain on July 10 exposed the quality of work with pools of water covering them.

The damaged parts of Sanghar-Shahdadpur and Sanghar-Mirpurkhas roads have not been repaired yet.

A taxi-driver, Sabir Mallah, said that the damaged roads had caused a drop in their income and added to expenditure on repair.

Engineer Highway Division Kazim Raza Shah said that funds for repairing the roads had not yet been received.
