WHEN the PPP government came to power, we saw development work in the city of Nawabshah, also known as Benazirabad.
The streetlights were turned on along the main roads and footpaths were garnished with colourful tiles.
But now, as the tenure of the current government is about to end, there is hardly any development work in the city. As a civil engineer, I can see the poor condition.
The recently-built roads have been swept away by last monsoon rains. There is no drainage which is also damaging roads.
Similarly, the streetlights of some selected roads are switched off.
It is not because of shortage of electricity but because they are not in order.
Last but not the least the colourful bricks have started sinking in earth because the soil before laying the bricks was not properly prepared.
The authorities concerned should keep an eye on construction work. Such development projects should not be handed over to shady contractors.
The contractors just make as much money as they can without considering the durability, without caring for the people.

Rains IT is regrettable that the drainage system in Nawabshah has been rendered unsable as a result downpour recently. The rainwater standing at various places has been playing havoc, spreading diseases all over the city.
The officials concerned should take necessary measures in this regard.
