SWABI, July 22: With all their attention focused on next general elections, potential candidates have started efforts to register their names for securing Awami National Party (ANP) ticket for provincial constituencies in Swabi district. As a result, differences in the party leaders and workers in provincial constituencies have been surfacing, sources said here on Sunday.

The main complaint made by the workers in each constituency and congested villages was that development works were carried out without their consent.

Mukhtiar Khan, CM’s adviser, was elected for the second time from PK-33, Swabi-III in 2008 elections. However, differences marred Mr Khan's relations with office-bearers of the constituency, led by former MPA Shoaib Khan.

Mr Shoaib and his supporters alleged that Mr Khan failed to take them into confidence while carrying out development works in the constituency.

However, Mr Khan said that he had no differences with Mr Shoaib and other office-bearers of the party.

MPA Sarfaraz Khan Jadoon was also elected for the second time from PK-36, Swabi-VI. Sources said that Mr Jadoon would try hard to get the party ticket this time too.

However, party leaders in his constituency want that this time their candidate should be one of the brothers of late Hanif Gul Jadoon who was killed in a suicide attack on the eve of previous Eidul Azha.

About 10 days ago the party office-bearers of congested Baja village threatened to resign, saying they were ignored in the party affairs. Knowing it, Mr Sarfaraz and district general secretary met the office-bearers and settled the issues. In PK-31 Swabi-1, sitting minister Zarshaid Khan is likely to get the party ticket, but at least three more candidates have already made up their minds to contest election from the constituency.

They oppose Mr Zarshaid and have already started maneuvering for getting the party ticket.

A few days ago Shahanshah Bacha and his supporters of Ismalia village quit ANP and joined the PPP-S. Similar reports of workers quitting the party were also received from Yaqubi village.

Observers here say that the ANP would confront problems once tenure of its government is over, as internal differences of both leaders and workers come to fore after announcement of the upcoming elections. At present out of 11 MNAs and MPAs from the district, eight belong to the ANP.
