KARACHI, July 25: The Sindh wildlife department confiscated four deer at the cantonment railway station on Wednesday morning.

The illegal consignment had arrived by Khyber Mail.

“Our team found the animals in wooden boxes in the cargo section of the train. Three of them are females. They are of the same species found in Tharparkar and Cholistan,” said Mumtaz Soomro, a game officer of the SWD who headed the raiding team.

The consignment was loaded at a stopover in Bahawalpur by Shahid and was booked for Aamir in Karachi.

No arrests could be made, he added.

The animals, currently kept in SWD offices, would be released into the Khirthar National Park in a day or two, he said.

Deer species are protected under the provincial wildlife rules.
