ISLAMABAD, July 27: Senator Rehman Malik was sworn in on Friday as federal minister for interior.

President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath to Mr Malik, who earlier held the office of adviser to prime minister on interior.

Mr Malik’s appointment as federal minister for interior was later notified by the Cabinet Division.

Earlier in the day, Mr Malik also took the oath as a member of the Senate. Mr Malik was elected unopposed in a by-election for a Senate seat vacated by him following a legal battle over his dual nationality. He subsequently renounced his UK citizenship.
