ISLAMABAD, July 29: The British High Commission on Saturday organised a rare display of photographs by Yahya Ghaznavi depicting former Pakistani British Olympians and other sports heroes.

A rare picture of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah was also on display in which he was seen talking to British athlete Betty Smith during the first Pakistan Olympic Sports Championship held in Karachi from April 23-25 in 1948.

Speaking on the occasion, British High Commissioner Adam Thomson said: “More than 3,000 Muslim athletes are participating at the London Olympics, which is once in a lifetime opportunity, with discipline, focus and commitment. We welcome these athletes and the countless other Muslims here and abroad to enjoy the Games at this very special time.

“I wish Pakistan Olympic and Paralympic teams the very best of luck as they proudly represent their nation at London 2012 Games.”

It is pertinent to mention that the London Olympics organising committee has made special food arrangements for Muslim athletes and officials.

Cricket great Majid Khan was also present on the occasion.
