KARACHI, July 31: While the bodies of 11 victims of the Turbat massacre were identified and claimed by their relatives, the remaining seven remained unclaimed and were buried after being kept in the Edhi morgue for a week, it emerged on Tuesday.

Eighteen illegal migrants were shot dead and two others wounded in a targeted attack in the Dasht area, nearly 20 kilometres from the Iranian border, on July 7.

Hailing from Punjab, they were dropped in Shooli Jam Bazaar in the Dasht area by a passenger bus from Karachi. They were waiting for some vehicle to cross the border through a difficult and illegal route to reach Iran for better economic prospects when they were targeted.

The following day 18 bodies were brought to the Edhi morgue where they had been kept for want of identification.

Senior official of the Edhi Foundation Anver Kazmi told Dawn that out of the 18 victims, 11 were identified and claimed by their relatives, while seven bodies remained unclaimed.

Since they were in bad condition, we decided to bury them last week, said Mr Kazmi.
