Last week, PTV’s renowned English newscaster Shaista Zaid retired after more than four decades of invaluable service.
Shaista Zaid became part of PTV in 1969 and from the very beginning got noticed for her impeccable diction and correct stresses and pauses. She read the news at almost all the important political junctures of the country, including the Dhaka Fall, imposition of martial laws and restoration of democracy.
In this day and age when eloquence seems to be at the lowest rung of priority on local TV channels, Shaista Zaid’s articulate style will be sorely missed.
