SWABI, Aug 4: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz workers blocked Swabi-Mardan and Swabi-Jahangira road while protesting against the failure of Pakistan People’s Party-led federal government and Awami National Party-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to fulfil their pledges, saying even the government could not fulfill its promise of no loadshedding at sehr and iftar timings.

The protesters, led by PML-N district president Iftikhar Ahmad and general secretary Dildar Khan, gathered at the party office and marched to Karnal Sher Khan Chowk while chanting anti-government slogans.

They alleged that the sole reason for not fulfilling the promises was the rulers’ involvement in massive corruption. They said that common people's life had become miserable while the ruling elites were enjoying luxurious life.

Mr Ahmad said that this country was created by the leaguers and they would continue to fight for the rights of its people. He said that those who used to claim to be the custodians of Pakhtuns’ rights had done nothing for them despite their promise of providing 100 free units of electricity to them.

Mr Dildar said that in fact the present rulers wanted to destabilise the country by creating rivalries among their own people.

However, he claimed that the leaguers would not allow anyone to harm integrity of the country.

In a resolution they unanimously called for the withdrawal of FIR registered against protesters, who allegedly attacked the local grid station during a protest against loadshedding a few days ago.

They said that Peshawar Electric Supply Company was resorting to about 20-hour daily loadshedding and when the people protested against it they were booked. They said that the government should resolve people’s problems instead of filing FIRs against them.

OBITUARY: Arshad Ali Khan, a young journalist of weekly ‘Swabi Nama’, succumbed to his injuries in Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar on Saturday. He had received bullet injuries three days ago during a clash involving his family members.

His funeral was held at Shahmansoor, which was attended by journalists, notables, local officers and people.

Meanwhile, Swabi Union of Journalists and several other journalist bodies expressed shock over the sad demise of Mr Khan and prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace.

They demanded that the relatives of deceased who were involved in his killing should be punished.
