LANDI KOTAL, Aug 4: Nato supplies via Torkham resumed on Saturday after a 10-day break as 15 goods containers crossed the border into Afghanistan.
The supplies were temporarily suspended after militants attacked two Nato containers in Jamrud town of Khyber Agency on July 24 killing a driver. Amjad Afridi, a khasadar official in Jamrud, told Dawn that personnel of his paramilitary force provided security to the containers up to Torkham border after they were allowed to enter Khyber Agency from Peshawar on Saturday morning.
“Of the 17 containers, two were returned by the National Logistic Cell authorities in Jamrud as they didn’t have the government permits to cross the border,” he said.
Mr Afridi said khasadar force provided Nato containers with security and would continue doing so. The official said the Frontier Corps had refused to be part of security apparatus for Nato convoys despite several requests by local political administration. — Correspondent
