KHAR, Aug 6: The official price control committee in Bajaur Agency on Monday decided to crack down on profiteers.

The decision was made during the committee’s meeting here, where political agent Abdul Jabbar Shah, committee members, senior officials of the administration, leaders of political parties and representatives of trade unions were in attendance. The committee members briefed participants about prices of fruits, vegetables, meat, wheat, rice, poultry and ice in the agency, especially since the start of Ramazan.

Law and order situation in the agency also came under discussion in the meeting.

Most participants complained that the local administration had failed to provide relief to the inflation-affected people in prices of kitchen items during Ramazan.

They also criticised levies personnel for failing to provide security to locals, especially visitors to commercial centres in the agency.

Some participants accused levies personnel, especially those deployed in Khar Bazaar, of being involved in corruption.

They urged corrective measures by the administration for the relief of commoners.

The political agent told participants that he had taken a notice of profiteering during Ramazan and would ensure immediate end to it.

He said the administration would force traders into following official price list and violators in this respect would be dealt with strictly.
