LONDON, Aug 8: Defending champions Netherlands beat New Zealand 3-1 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday to reach the women’s field hockey final.
Ellen Hoog scored the winner, backhanding the ball past New Zealand goalkeeper Bianca Russell to end a semi-final in which the Dutch came from a goal down each time to make it 1-1 at halftime and 2-2 at the end of regulation.—AP
