“In order that modern Pakistan conform to the Quaid-i-Azam’s vision, it is important that political parties not manipulate national issues to gain partisan advantage and instead find practical solutions, above party lines, by consensus and through consultation, to problems such as energy, the economy, education, employment, national security, law and order, and foreign policy.
Respect for differences of opinion is vital for strengthening institutions and promoting inter-provincial harmony. The mindset of political leaders needs to change; they must learn to forgive, forget and move on.
That is what I mean when I use a popular Punjabi expression, mitti pao, for changing this outmoded political culture of victimisation and revenge. Pakistan was founded by Quaid-i-Azam on the principles of unity, faith and discipline. In order to conform to his vision, modern Pakistan must look towards the future with big-heartedness and not be held hostage to the bickering and bitterness of the past, so that we solve the problems of the people instead of creating new conflicts or fighting over non-issues.”
