ISLAMABAD: Adjourning the hearing in the contempt of court case against Interior Minister Rehman Malik, the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued summons for Malik for the next hearing, DawnNews reported.

The case’s hearing was however adjourned to an unspecified date.

A two-judge bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Nasirul Mulk and Justice Ejaz Chaudhry, heard the contempt of court case against Malik.

During the hearing, Malik’s lawyer, Chaudhry Azhar, requested the court to allow more time to file a reply.

Responding to which, Justice Ejaz remarked that the minister was not taking interest in his defence and was making excuses to delay the proceedings.

Justice Ejaz further said that more time could no longer be given to the minister, adding that, it would be feasible to issue an arrest warrant against him.

Azhar then proceeded to inform the court that Malik was at the time attending a session of the federal cabinet and would be available to appear in court should the judges require.

However, the bench ordered Malik to appear in court at the next hearing and adjourned the case to an unspecified date.

The apex court had issued a notice against Malik for engaging in contempt of court in the Pakistan Steel Mills case for allegedly influencing the investigation.
